Heat pumps in Marbella & the Costa del Sol

One technology, three applications: space heating and cooling, domestic hot water, and pool heating. Air-source heat pumps deliver up to 500% efficiency — making them the most cost-effective way to heat your home, water and pool on the Costa del Sol.

How It Works

Why heat pumps make perfect sense on the Costa del Sol

A heat pump doesn't generate heat — it moves it. By extracting heat energy from the outside air (even at low temperatures) and delivering it into your home or water system, it produces 3–5 units of heat energy for every 1 unit of electricity consumed.

In the mild Andalusian climate, where outdoor temperatures rarely drop below 5°C even in winter, heat pumps operate at their most efficient year-round. They make more economic sense here than almost anywhere else in Europe.

  • 300–500% efficiency — far cheaper to run than gas or electric resistance heating
  • Works for space heating, cooling, domestic hot water and pool heating
  • Compatible with underfloor heating, radiators and fan coil units
  • Uses R32 refrigerant — 67% lower global warming potential than R410A
  • No flue, no gas connection, no combustion — safer and simpler to install

Applications

Three ways a heat pump can work for you

The same core technology — moving heat energy from the air — delivers across three distinct applications. Many of our clients use two or all three.

Air-to-water heat pump space heating Marbella

Space heating & cooling

Air-to-water heat pumps (Daikin Altherma, Mitsubishi Ecodan) heat water that circulates through underfloor pipes or radiators in winter, and can reverse to provide cooling in summer. A single system replaces both your boiler and your air conditioning — with running costs significantly lower than either.

Heat pump domestic hot water cylinder

Domestic hot water

A heat pump water heater produces hot water for showers, baths and taps at 2–3 times the efficiency of a conventional electric boiler. It can work as a standalone unit or be integrated with an air-to-water system to cover both space heating and DHW from one installation.

Swimming pool heat pump Marbella Costa del Sol

Pool heating

Pool heat pumps (we specify Hayward as our preferred brand) extend your swimming season to 12 months on the Costa del Sol. With a COP of 4–6, they're vastly more efficient than gas heaters. Combine with a Roldeck automatic cover to reduce heat loss overnight and cut energy consumption by up to 70%.

The Process

From survey to installation — what to expect

A heat pump installation is more involved than fitting a split AC unit. It requires careful sizing, integration with your existing heating system, and sometimes upgrades to pipework or the hot water cylinder. We survey first, then design the right system.

  1. 1

    Free site survey

We assess your property — insulation, existing emitters, hot water demand, pool size — and calculate the correct heat pump capacity. Undersized systems don't perform; oversized systems cycle on and off inefficiently.

  2. 2

    System design & quote

We produce a written proposal covering equipment specification, estimated running costs versus your current system, and a fixed installation price. No surprises.

  3. 3

    Installation by our own engineers

All work is carried out by Oasis engineers — we never subcontract heat pump installations. Typically 1–3 days depending on system complexity.

  4. 4

    Commissioning & handover

We commission the system, test performance across all modes, set schedules to match your usage, and walk you through the controls before we leave.

We specify air-to-water heat pumps from two Japanese manufacturers whose products we know inside out — because we also install and service their air conditioning ranges.

Suitability

Is a heat pump right for my property?

Heat pumps work very well on the Costa del Sol — but the installation needs to be designed correctly. Here's a plain-English guide.

Good candidates

  • New builds and major renovations — easiest to design in from the start
  • Properties with underfloor heating — heat pumps and UFH are an ideal pairing
  • Properties replacing old electric or LPG heating — biggest running cost savings
  • Clients who want to reduce or eliminate gas dependence
  • Properties with a swimming pool — heat pump covers multiple applications
  • Villas with space for an outdoor unit (doesn't need much — typically 1–2m²)

Things to consider

  • High-temperature radiators — the Daikin Altherma 4 HT is designed for this; we assess compatibility at survey
  • Very small apartments — a heat pump may be oversized; we'll recommend accordingly
  • Properties with poor insulation — a heat pump will still work but won't perform as well; we'll advise on insulation improvements
  • Communal buildings — outdoor unit placement and noise rules may apply; we can advise
