Ducted Air Conditioning

Climate control you can't see — that works everywhere

A ducted air conditioning system uses a single outdoor unit connected to one or more air handling units concealed in the ceiling void. Cool or warm air is distributed through a network of ducts, emerging through slim grilles in each room. No wall-mounted units. No visible equipment. Just comfortable air.

It's the standard solution for new-build villas on the Costa del Sol — and can be retrofitted to existing properties where there is sufficient ceiling void (typically 25–30 cm). Where full ducting isn't possible, a VRV or VRF system connects multiple indoor units to a single large outdoor plant — giving the same invisible, whole-property coverage in a different configuration.

  • No visible indoor units — complete ceiling integration
  • One outdoor unit serves the whole property
  • Compatible with Airzone multi-zone control — different temperatures per room
  • Suitable for new build and retrofit
  • Heating and cooling from a single system (heat pump versions)
  • Significantly quieter operation than multiple wall-mounted splits

Ducted vs Split Systems

Which system is right for your property?

Both are good solutions — the right choice depends on your property, your budget and how much you want to see of the equipment.

Wall-Mounted Splits

Best for: individual rooms, simpler installations, retrofit without ceiling access

  • Lower upfront cost per zone
  • Easier to install in existing properties
  • Each unit independently controlled
  • No ceiling void required
  • Visible indoor unit on every wall
  • Multiple outdoor units — more rooftop equipment
  • Less uniform air distribution across large spaces
Systems We Install

Ducted, VRV and VRF systems

We work with the full range of central and multi-split systems — from a single ducted unit for a two-bedroom apartment to a multi-outdoor VRV installation for a large villa or commercial building.

Ducted Central AC

Daikin · Mitsubishi Electric · Toshiba

A single air handling unit in the ceiling void distributes conditioned air through ducts to all rooms. Ideal for villas and apartments where the ceiling allows it. Available in cooling-only and heat pump (heating + cooling) versions.

Daikin VRV

Daikin Authorised Partner

Variable Refrigerant Volume — one or more large outdoor units serve multiple indoor units across the building via refrigerant pipework. Ducted cassettes, ceiling units and wall-mounted units can all connect to the same outdoor plant. Best for large residential and commercial projects. As a Daikin Authorised Partner, we are factory-trained on VRV.

Mitsubishi City Multi

Mitsubishi Electric Approved Installer

Mitsubishi Electric's equivalent to VRV — a Variable Refrigerant Flow system connecting multiple indoor units to one outdoor plant. Particularly strong for commercial spaces, offices, hotels and larger residential properties. As an Approved Installer, we are trained and certified to commission City Multi systems correctly.

Add Airzone multi-zone control to any ducted system

As an Airzone Elite Installer, we integrate Airzone damper control into every ducted project where the client wants independent room-by-room temperature management. One app, one thermostat per zone, and only the rooms you're using need to be conditioned. It pays for itself quickly in a large property. Learn about Airzone →

How We Work

From first survey to handover

Ducted AC is a more involved project than a wall-mounted split. Here's what to expect — and why the design stage matters.

1

Site survey & design

We visit the property, check ceiling void dimensions, assess the heat load for each space and plan the duct routing. The design determines the system size, the number of outlets and the position of the outdoor unit. Getting this right at the start means no problems later.

2

Fixed-price quotation

We provide a full written quotation covering equipment, installation, all materials and commissioning. No provisional sums, no open-ended costs. For new-build projects, we coordinate directly with the architect and project manager so the system is factored into the build programme from the start.

3

Installation

Our own engineers carry out the full installation — ductwork, air handling unit, outdoor unit, refrigerant pipework, electrical connections and condensate drainage. We work to the programme and keep the site clean. A typical villa installation takes 3–5 days. We never subcontract.

4

Commissioning & handover

We commission the system to manufacturer specifications, test all zones, check refrigerant charge and show you how to use the controls. All paperwork is completed and filed for you — installation certificate, F-Gas records, warranty registration. The system is ready to use the day we leave.

Projects

Ducted AC projects on the Costa del Sol

We've been installing central and VRV systems across the Marbella area since 2000. These are two examples of the type of work we do.

New Build · 2017

Marbesa 53 — New Build Villa

Complete mechanical and electrical fit-out for a new-build villa in the Marbesa urbanisation. The air conditioning scope included a full Daikin VRV system with concealed ducted cassettes throughout, integrated with underfloor heating circuits and a Daikin Altherma heat pump for the hydronic system. Architect: Carlos Lamas.

New Build · 2014

Villa Canberra — New Build

Full M&E new-build installation including air conditioning, heating, electrics, telecoms and plumbing. The AC system was designed and installed during the construction phase — ductwork routed before ceilings were closed, giving a completely invisible finished result. All zones independently controlled.

Client Review

What our clients say

★★★★★ Google Review

"Alex & his team have recently completed a new air conditioning installation at our apartment & we are delighted with the system. I had very particular requirements for the system & was beginning to think it was not achievable; however, Oasis has not only fulfilled all our requirements but have even exceeded them in some areas. The team were very professional & made every effort to reduce the inconvenience during the work. Communication was good throughout both the quoting & installation stages. Thank you Alex, Marcos & your team."

FAQ

Common questions about ducted air conditioning

Ducted air conditioning is a central system where a single outdoor unit connects to an indoor air handling unit. Treated air is distributed throughout the property via a network of concealed ducts in the ceiling, with discreet grilles in each room. Unlike wall-mounted splits, there are no visible units inside — the entire system is hidden.
Yes, in most cases. The key requirement is access to the ceiling void — typically 25–30 cm — for ductwork. Properties with flat roofs, suspended ceilings or accessible loft spaces are ideal. We carry out a detailed site survey before specifying any system to confirm suitability and identify the optimum routing for the ducts.
Ducted AC typically uses a single indoor air handling unit to condition the whole space. VRV (Daikin) and VRF (generic) systems connect multiple indoor units — which can be a mix of ducted cassettes, wall-mounted splits and ceiling units — to one or more large outdoor units. VRV/VRF is best for large properties or commercial spaces needing independent control across many zones.
Yes. Airzone damper systems allow a single ducted unit to serve multiple independently controlled zones — different temperatures in different rooms, even when rooms aren't all in use. As an Airzone Elite Installer, we design and commission zone control systems as part of most ducted AC projects.
A typical villa installation takes 3–5 days depending on the number of zones, the complexity of the duct routing and whether other trades are involved. New-build projects where the ducting is installed before ceilings are closed are generally quicker. We provide a detailed programme as part of every project quotation.
Yes — new-build installation is a core part of our work on the Costa del Sol. We work directly with architects and project managers during the construction phase to coordinate ductwork, condensate drainage and electrical supply. Early involvement means the system is designed in rather than retrofitted.
